Scammers present a real danger to Seniors
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody announced she is forming a Senior Protection Team. “This team of highly-skilled attorneys and investigators will be laser-focused on identifying and eliminating fraud and abuse harming Florida seniors.”
Taking action against Roofing Scams
A complaint was filed by Attorney General Ashley Moody’s Consumer Protection Division to take action against a roofing company scamming seniors and hurricane victims in Florida. The complaint alleges violations such as taking payments from homeowners for roofing jobs with no intention of performing the work.
Don’t fall for Social Security and IRS Scams
Last year more than 35,000 people reported the Social Security Scam! Here is what you need to know:
- Your Social Security number is not about to be suspended.
- Your bank accounts are not about to be seized.
- The Social Security Administration will never call you and tell you to wire money, send cash or gift cards.

Avoid the Phishing hook
Think twice before you give personal information online. Scammers are sending emails and texts pretending to be companies or people you know. If you are asked to click on a link and provide a password or bank account information, avoid the hook!
Protect yourself by calling the person or company directly. Inform them of the message and do not give away personal information. Here is what to look for:
- You don’t have an account with the company.
- The message has your name misspelled or uses poor grammar.
- The person is asking for your password or bank information.
