A background into consumer protection
The Arizona Attorney General released an infographic this month warning Seniors preparing for vacation this Summer to be aware of potential timeshare scams.
This particular “Scam at a Glance” Edition covers timeshare sales and outlines various warnings to consumers about timeshare presentations and first day incentives. Law enforcement tips are an important part of the consumer education program created by the AG’s Community Outreach Team, who work on consumer protection and marketplace safety issues.
Using social media, the AZ-AG spreads a wide net of information to protect seniors from certain types of business practices. Other state regulators and the BBB in Florida have shared similar issues as timeshare consumer complaints increase from 2020 to 2021.

After the presentation you may be interested in purchasing a timeshare, but before you sign on the dotted line, you need to find out more information, such as timeshare vacation availability, maintenance fees, taxes, and resale opportunities. In addition, if the timeshare is purchased outside of the United States there may be completely different set of laws regarding timeshare sales.

If you have already purchased a timeshare and are not satisfied with the product, you should first contact the developer to determine if they will allow you out of your contract. If not, you should contact an experienced timeshare attorney who understands issues related to timeshare cancellation and termination of a contractual agreement.
